45Horizontal Datum of Charts

The Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) has adopted WGS84 which is compatible with Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Existing paper nautical charts may also reference the North American Datum 1983 (NAD83), which is considered equivalent to WGS84. In a limited number of cases, an older horizontal datum may be used and will require GNSS positions to be adjusted using the chart-specific Horizontal Datum note, as shown on the chart. The mariner should always check the Horizontal Datum note shown on CHS charts for additional instructions.
